Incoming WCAAP vice president Mike Barsotti, MD, FAAP grew up outside of Sacramento and attended college at UC Davis followed by medical school at St. Louis University. Dr. Barsotti, a neonatologist, has worked at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane since 1999 and was Medical Director of the hospital’s NICU for 10 years. After a 3-year stint in central California at Valley Children’s Hospital, Dr. Barsotti returned to Spokane to assume the CMO role at Sacred Heart. He is now the Chief Administrative Officer of the hospital.
Dr. Barsotti’s interests include value-based payments for pediatrics and he has been an active member of the WCAAP Health Care Transformation Committee. He values the opportunities to network and advocate for kids that being a member of the Chapter provides. “Advocacy initially appeared intimidating but really makes you understand that you can make a difference,” he says. “The best part for me is being part of a statewide solution to the problems that face our children with regards to not just medicine but determinants that will shape their lives.”

Dr. Barsotti is active in the Spokane community, serving as the Spokane Chair for the March of Dimes Walk for Kids this year, and on the Life Flight Network Board. He was a competitive swimmer in his youth and continues to swim for exercise today. “I was a walk on for my college team—I was the cut line—therefore I was truly the slowest person on the team,” he says. Dr. Barsotti and his wife Anne have been married for 33 years and have twin girls, now 26 years old – Kellie is a third-year medical student in Chicago, while Katie is working for 21st Century Fox in Los Angeles.
