The American Academy of Pediatrics has developed a new guide about Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) for pediatricians serving families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing (D/HH). The guide explains the EHDI guidelines for newborn hearing screening, as well as the management that follows a diagnosis of hearing loss. It explains the role of the EHDI state coordinator who can help with information and resources, as well as links to early intervention services and parent support organizations. The guide also outlines the role of the medical home for children who are D/HH, including guidance about coding for hearing screening and hearing-related services. This resource will help pediatricians access guidelines and strategies to better support children who are D/HH.
