Washington’s Most Comprehensive Pediatric Orthopedic Care Center Opens This Month in Kirkland

Seattle Children’s will open its new Kirkland Orthopedics Clinic on June 22, expanding access to pediatric musculoskeletal, sports medicine and rehabilitation care for children and teens throughout Washington.

The new clinic brings orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, rehabilitation medicine, therapy, imaging and orthotics/prosthetics services together in one location, allowing for more coordinated multidisciplinary care for children with both common and complex orthopedic conditions. Co-locating orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, rehabilitation specialists, therapists and orthotists/prosthetists is designed to improve care coordination and reduce the burden of multiple visits for families.

A key feature of the new clinic is Seattle Children’s first Motion Analysis Clinic, which uses advanced 3D motion-capture technology to evaluate gait and movement patterns. Motion analysis labs are increasingly used in pediatric orthopedics and rehabilitation to guide treatment decisions for children with complex movement disorders, including cerebral palsy, spina bifida, limb differences and other neuromuscular conditions. Detailed gait analysis can help specialists better assess muscle function, alignment and biomechanics, informing surgical planning, orthotic management and therapy recommendations while helping track outcomes over time.

The clinic also includes advanced imaging technology, including EOS low-dose imaging, which is now considered a standard imaging modality for many pediatric spine evaluations. Unlike traditional X-rays, EOS captures standing, weight-bearing images of the entire musculoskeletal system while exposing children to substantially lower radiation doses – an important consideration for patients who require repeated imaging over time, such as those with scoliosis or lower limb deformities. EOS technology also allows for highly accurate 2D and 3D assessment of spinal alignment and lower extremity positioning, and integrates the use of AI to help support surgical planning and longitudinal monitoring.

The 29-room clinic was designed to support efficient multidisciplinary visits and improve access to coordinated care across specialties in a family-centered environment. For more information, visit Refer a Patient – Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Program
