Seattle, WA — The Washington Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (WCAAP) is celebrating a legal victory in the case WSMA v. Kennedy, which will result in the restoration of vital public health data that was unlawfully deleted from federal websites earlier this year.
Earlier this year, WCAAP joined a coalition of nine leading healthcare organizations—including the Washington State Medical Association and the Washington State Nurses Association—in filing the lawsuit after the federal government removed resources related to reproductive health, LGBTQ+ health, HIV/AIDS, opioid use, and other key areas. The removals followed executive orders issued in January 2025.
“This lawsuit was about protecting children’s health,” said Dr. James Polo, President of WCAAP. “Pediatricians rely on accurate, evidence-based data to guide care. When critical health information disappears, it puts kids at risk. We’re proud to have stood up for science and transparency.”
As part of the legal resolution, federal agencies have agreed to restore the deleted data and web resources, ensuring continued access for healthcare providers, researchers, and families.
WCAAP’s involvement reflects its commitment to advocating for policies and practices that support the health and well-being of Washington’s children and adolescents.
