Washington State’s new Working Families Tax Credit can help relieve the impacts of inflation and our regressive state tax structure on lower income working families by reimbursing them for state sales taxes anywhere from $300 to $1200 yearly depending on the size of their family. Families must apply for this credit, and your clinic or organization could help them learn about the program and how to apply.
Information on eligibility and how to apply are on the WA State Department of Revenue website https://workingfamiliescredit.wa.gov/. Applications open February 1, 2023 for the 2022 tax year and are accepted through December 31, 2023. Applications can only be filed after the individual or family applying has submitted their federal tax form.

There are also training materials and programs available through this website if your organization has social workers or community outreach workers who can directly help families determine if they are eligible and help them apply.
